HISTORY by Tony Howe: Gilford was the location the Gilchrist-Fordney Co. logging railroad connected with the GM&N Railroad south of Bay Springs. The lumber company had a logging camp nearby and ran its log trains over the GM&N to reach the company's sawmill in Laurel.
