HISTORY by Tony Howe: The post office was originally called "Engine."
In 1915, McDonald had 13 mercantile stores, 2 wholesale business firms,
McDonald Cabinet Works, a cotton gin, grist mill, blacksmith shop, drug
store, 2 churches, a school, post office, ice house, boarding house, hotel,
and approximately 100 houses. By the mid-1940's the only places left were
two stores, cotton gin, post office, church, and pulpwood yard.
