HISTORY by Tony Howe: 

William F Gilbert bought land here in 1879 and built a store at this location. A post office was established in his store about 1880 and named for his youngest daughter. A fire wiped out most of downtown Lena on March 21, 1924. The first passenger train on the J&E arrived at Lena Sept 17, 1925. Last train passed through Lena April 20, 1980.
