HISTORY by Tony Howe:
Hamlet was the location of a post office from 1882 until at least 1908.
The Waters Lumber Co. operated a mill at Hamlet from 1906 to 1908 and
employed 30. It did not operate a logging railroad. Joe Blankenship moved a
mill here in 1913 and had a capacity of 35,000 feet a day and employed
50.
