History by Gil Hoffman: In
January 1916 James G. Sartin began buying timber rights north of Kitchener,
Neshoba County, in preparation for a sawmill operation. The Sartin Lumber
Company, formed to build a sawmill and cut this timber, was a co-partnership
composed of James G. Sartin, A. O. Clark and G. M. Brown, all of Kitchener.
A sawmill was constructed on the newly completed Jackson & Eastern
Railway at Kitchener which cut long and shortleaf pine, specializing in
short leaf finish, common boards and railway and car material. In
1924 J. G. Sartin retired from the sawmill business and moved to
Hattiesburg, MS.
