History
by Gil Hoffman and Tony Howe:
The Natchez & Southern Railroad was chartered
in Mississippi on December 17, 1902, and was controlled by the St. Louis,
Iron Mountain & Southern Railway through ownership of the entire
capital stock. It was exclusively a switching road running from a
connection with the Y&MV and Mississippi Central at Natchez southwest
to an incline on the Mississippi River where a railroad ferry was operated
to Vidalia, La. to connect with the rest of the StLIM&S-MP system. The
StLIM&S later became part of the Missouri Pacific.
