History by Gil Hoffman: The Monroe Lumber Company, owned principally by W. G. Day, of New Orleans, reassembled the sawmill of the Interstate Lumber Company, at Shipman, in George County, at Monroe, in Franklin County, with sawing commencing in July 1909. A receiver took charge of the operation on February 10, 1910 and on April 13, 1910 the company was judged bankrupt by the U. S. District Court, at Jackson, MS. On October 12, 1910 the property was sold to Eamanuel Samuels and A. Baldwin, Jr. The mill was restarted by Day in November 1910 under the name Franklin Lumber Company and operated for a short time. On January 15, 1912 Samuels and Baldwin sold the property to the Alabama-Mississippi Lumber Company.
