History by Gil Hoffman: On August 5, 1905 J. T. McKinnon purchased the sawmill, logging equipment and timber land belonging to the Collins family. This mill was located about a mile and a half south of Ellisville and about the same distance east of the New Orleans & Northeastern Railroad. When McKinnon bought the mill it was logged by oxen. He later put in a spur railroad on the old dummy line of the Tallahala Lumber Company between the mill and the N. O. & N. E., connecting at Fridge Spur, and also extended this line a short distance to his timber. On February 23, 1910 McKinnon sold his mill, logging railroad and timber to O. V. Hull and Lionel Collins, both of Ellisville, for $10,584.86. The entire property was re-acquired by McKinnon on August 30, 1910. In March 1912 the McKinnon planing mill was destroyed by fire, but was apparently rebuilt. In November 1913 the sawmill plant was closed indefinitely. On January 3, 1916 the mill was sold to Mulford Parker. Meanwhile, McKinnon established a new sawmilling operation at Beatrice, in Clarke County.
