History
by Gil Hoffman:
The Long Branch Lumber Company was incorporated in Mississippi in May
1920 by D. K. Collins, L. K. Collins and others with authorized capital
stock of $40,000. The company's sawmill was on the Gulf, Mobile &
Northern Railroad, at Tuckers Crossing, about three miles south of Laurel.
On October 11, 1921, the sawmill burned but was rebuilt.
On January 31, 1925, the sawmill, logging railroad and equipment and
timber holdings were sold to C. K. Wells, A. B. Cleaney and I. K. Deblieux,
who formed the Jones County Hardwood Company
to operate the property.
