HISTORY by Tony Howe:
The Houston, Central Arkansas & Northern Railroad built 144.59 miles
of railroad from Alexandria, Louisiana to the Arkansas State Line by 1891.
It was controlled and operated by the Missouri Pacific Ry. On December 31,
1891, the railroad was sold to the Alexandria & St. Louis Railway. On
November 23, 1893, the railroad was again sold to the Houston, Central
Arkansas & Northern RAILWAY, who had built a connecting line to McGehee,
Arkansas. The St. Louis, Iron Mountain & Southern Railroad bought the
Houston, Central Arkansas & Northern Ry on December 13, 1893.
