History
by Gil Hoffman:
In 1920
Hubert F. Young, of Corinth, MS, erected a 60,000 feet daily capacity
sawmill at Golden, Tishomingo County. In 1924 the Golden Saw Mill Company
was incorporated with a paid in capital stock of $350,000 to take over
the operation of Young, Curtis & Company at Golden. The main office of the
company was at Corinth, MS.
The first
logging railroad was 20 miles long, running generally northeastward from
Golden and crossing over the state line into Alabama. When the timber along
this line was cut out, another 20 mile logging line was built southward out
of Golden. In early 1934 the southern line was logged out and the mill
closed down.
