History
by Gil Hoffman:
The W. W.
Gary Lumber Company was incorporated in February 1923, with $80,000 in
capital stock. Officers of the company were: W. W. Gary, of Hollandale, MS,
president; Frank A. Conkling and E. Austin Neely, vice presidents, and W. W.
Fant, secretary and treasurer. The company purchased 22,560 acres of
hardwood timber near Valley Park, MS, on the Sunflower and Yazoo rivers, and
also acquired the single bandmill operated by W. W. Gary at Percy, MS. A new
75,000 feet daily capacity bandmill was built at Valley Park which commenced
operation in September 1923. To log this mill 7 miles of logging railroad
were constructed from Valley Park into the timber.
