HISTORY by Gil Hoffman:
The Gadsden &
Attalla Union Railway was chartered on March 29, 1890, and the main line
from Gadsden to Attalla built in 1890, with the branch completed in 1891. J.
M. Elliott, Jr., of Gadsden, was president of the railroad.
The Alabama City,
Gadsden & Attalla Railroad was organized under a special act of the
Alabama Legislature of 1900, and acquired the Gadsden & Attalla Union
Railway, which had been sold under foreclosure on March 20, 1901. It was
purchased by the bondholders who conveyed the property to the new company.
J. M. Elliott, Jr. was also president of the reorganized company.
