History by Gil Hoffman: In early 1903 W. B. Crane & Company, of Chicago, Illinois, purchased 3,500 acres of timber land in Quitman County and built a sawmill with a cutting capacity of 30,000 feet per day at Falcon to cut this timber. The mill operated through 1910, according to the Mercantile Agency Reference Book.
