HISTORY:

The Columbia & Silver Creek Railroad was formed by Richard Abernathy in March 1982 to operate the the former Gulf & Ship Island RR (later Illinois Central) branch between Columbia and Silver Creek, MS from Illinois Central Gulf Railroad. The line was purchased by the Marion County Railroad Authority from ICG and leased to the Columbia & Silver Creek RR. This line was sold to Gloster Southern Railroad (Georgia Pacific Corp) on November 1, 1988, but abandoned in December 1995 north of Goss, MS.

The Columbia & Silver Creek Railroad purchased a second line from Illinois Central Gulf RR between Taylorsville, MS to Soso, MS, a distance of 10.5 miles. It was abandoned in 1992.
