History
by Gil Hoffman:
W. M. Carter & Company was a partnership composed of William M.
Carter and Mrs. Martha A. Carter. The sawmill was originally located near
Sandersville, Jones County and the business office was at Heidelbery, Jasper
County, about 8 miles north of Sandersville. The specialty was car sills cut
from longleaf yellow pine.
On January 19, 1900 the Carters bought the sawmill of J. E. Parker, at
Haney, about a mile and a half northeast of Sandersville. Operations were
then moved to this mill.
