History by Gil Hoffman: On
July 1, 1909, the Cardal Lumber Company of Chicago, IL bought the
sawmill plant, logging railroad and equipment and timber holdings of the Walworth
& Neville Manufacturing Company, at Pinebur, Marion County. The
price was $86,000. Officers of the company were William M. Carpenter,
president; R. H. Proctor, vice president, and Ernest S. Hugh, secretary. The
sawmill had a cutting capacity of 50,000 feet per day. The manager of the
mill was S. G. Blalock. On
December 19, 1911, the assets were sold to the Alabama-Mississippi Lumber
Company.
