History by Gil Hoffman:

The J. R. Buckwalter Lumber Company was incorporated at Union, Newton County, on February 25, 1909 by J. R. Buckwalter of Union, J. C. Buckwalter of Union, A. I. Buckwalter of Wingate and N. Buckwalter of Wingate with authorized capital stock of $100,000. A double band mill with a cutting capacity of 80,000 feet per day was built at Union, starting operations in 1909. Timber for this mill was located in Newton, Neshoba, Leake and Scott counties and was of the shortleaf variety. The mill was in continuous operation from 1909 until 1940 when it closed down.
