History
by Gil Hoffman:
On
February 21, 1912, J. H. Bostick purchased a sawmill and dry kiln from the
W. M. Carter Lumber Company, of Laurel, MS This mill was moved to the
"Y" on the New Orleans, Mobile & Chicago at Ellisville
Junction, about eight miles south of Laurel, and reassembled. The first
timber cut by Bostick was directly south of the mill. The W. M. Carter
Lumber Company, in return for acting as financial backer of this mill,
obtained a royalty on the lumber produced by Bostick. The following year,
May 30, 1913, Bostick purchased 440 acres of timber from the McGowan Lumber
& Export Company, of Mobile, Ala., at Ellisville Junction for $24,000.
This timber was immediately west of the mill site. As part of the deal, the
McGowin Lumber & Export Company became exclusive dealer for Bostick's
output. About 1916 the mill cut out.
