HISTORY by Gil Hoffman:

The Birmingham & Atlantic Railroad was incorporated in Alabama on October 20, 1890, as a reorganization of the Talladega & Coosa Valley Railroad. The company was controlled through stock ownership by the Northern Alabama Coal, Iron & Railway Company. The B&A completed a line from Renfroe to Cook Ore Mines, 10 miles, toward the end of 1890.

From at least 1908 through 1919, the company ran an increasing deficit. The entire railroad was abandoned in 1919.
