History
by Tony Howe:
On July 1, 1907,
the Belzoni Hardwood Lbr. Co. purchased 8687 acres of hardwood timber from
the Chas. E. Thomas Land & Timber Co. Originally owned by Danaher & Melendy
Co., of Michigan, this timber was located south and east of Belzoni. In July
1907, Charles E. Thomas was president of Belzoni Hardwood Lbr. Co. A
standard gauge logging railroad was built south and east from Belzoni into
this timber in 1910. |
