HISTORY by Tony Howe:
The St. Louis, Avoyelles & Southwestern Railroad was incorporated on
January 12, 1894. The name was changed to St. Louis, Avoyelles &
Southwestern RAILWAY on October 22, 1895. 25.45 miles of railroad was
completed from Bunkie, La. to Simmesport, La. in 1896, along with a 8.85
miles branch to Marksville. The company was sold under foreclosure on August
20, 1898 and reorganized as the Avoyelles Railroad (Poor's Manual says
"Avoyelles Railway"). The Avoyelles Railroad was sold to the Texas
& Pacific Ry on December 20, 1900.
