HISTORY by Tony Howe: The Alexandria, Junction City & Shreveport Railroad was incorporated
on June 29, 1897, and sold to the Arkansas Southern Railroad on March 10, 1899. The Arkansas
Southern RR was incorporated August 29, 1892 and completed 27 miles from El
Dorado, Ark. to Junction City, Ark. By August of 1899, the line had been
extended to Ruston, Louisiana and by June 1902 the line was completed to
Winnfield, Lou. The Arkansas Southern Extension Railway was incorporated
November 28, 1903 and built another 10 miles of track from Winnfield to
Packton, Louisiana, where a connection was made to the Louisiana &
Arkansas Railroad and trackage rights were obtained to reach Alexandria. The
Arkansas Southern and Arkansas Southern Extension Ry were both sold to the Rock Island, Arkansas & Louisiana
Railroad on October 31, 1905. The Chicago Rock Island & Pacific Ry
leased the Rock Island, Arkansas & Louisiana RR for 999 years on January
