History
by Gil Hoffman:
On November 9, 1901 the Summit Lumber Company, of Arkansas, controlled by
the Silverthorne interests of Tonawanda, New York, bought the sawmill,
logging railroad and timber holdings of the Anderson Lumber Company, at
Ellisville, Jones County. This property was operated as the Anchor Saw Mill
Company, a Mississippi corporation. The original secretary and general
manager was D. F. McCullough. The cutting capacity of the sawmill was 50,000
feet per day. The product was longleaf yellow pine lumber and timbers, rough
or dressed.
The company went out of business in the summer of 1912. On August 30,
1912 the mill site and other company land in Ellisville were sold to I. P.
Clayton.
