History
by Tony Howe:
In January 1910, J.H. Allen, of Minter City, and W.J. Richardson, of
Memphis, built 2 miles of logging railroad for their sawmill located at
Minter City, Miss. Trackage rights were obtained over the Minter City,
Southern and Western RR to reach their timber. In April 1911, J. H. Allen &
Company was organized to operate sawmills at Minter City, MS, and Pine
Bluff, AR. On April 2, 1915, the entire operation at Minter City was sold to
the Cane Lake Stave & Lumber Co.
The Cane Lake Stave &
Lumber Company was incorporated at Minter City, Leflore County, on May 17,
1915 by C. M. Davis, C. L. Crandall and J. J. Jones, all of Minter City,
with authorized capital stock of $10,000.
