History by Gil Hoffman:
On January 15, 1912 the Car-Dal
Lumber Company, of Chicago, Ill., purchased the sawmill plant and timber
holdings of the bankrupt Monroe Lumber Company, at Monroe, MS, plus the
timber holdings of the Douville Land & Timber Company, also at Monroe.
These properties were operated as the Alabama-Mississippi Lumber Company,
chartered in Maine. The sawmill was a Filer & Stowell circular type
with a cutting capacity of 75,000 feet per day. Also included were a
planing mill, four dry kilns and 8,600 acres of pine timber land.
In November 1913 the plant was shut down for an indefinite period
because of poor business conditions. Apparently it was never
reopened.
