History
by Gil Hoffman:
The
Hall & Legan Lumber Company was incorporated at
Morton, Scott County, in November 1910 with capital
stock of $200,000. The company purchased 32,000 acres of
shortleaf pine timber land near Morton and built a band
and circular sawmill with a cutting capacity of 75,000
feet per day at Morton. The company specialized in
shortleaf finish, flooring and ceiling and also
manufactured all kinds of common boards and dimension.
G. W. Legan was secretary and general manager. On
February 18, 1922 the entire holdings were sold to the
Adams-Banks Lumber Company.
Before
coming to Mississippi, Hall & Legan had operated a
sawmill at Tannehill, in Winn Parish, Louisiana.
