History by Gil Hoffman: In May 1898 Monroe D.
Tate bought land on the south edge of the village of McNeill, where he
established his residence. In 1903 he built a sawmill at Tate’s Switch on
the New Orleans & Northeastern Railroad and a logging railroad. In
January 1904 a planing mill was added, bought from the Banner Lumber Co., of
Kentwood, LA. A general merchandise business was also operated, apparently
in connection with the sawmill. Tate went into bankruptcy on January 12, 1905. |
