History
by Gil Hoffman:
The
Mississippi Delta Planting Company, of Memphis, Tennessee, operated a
hardwood mill with a cutting capacity of 30,000 feet per day on the Yazoo
& Mississippi Valley Railroad, at Scott, Bolivar County.
In
June 1919 all of the properties of the corporation were sold to the Delta
& Pine Land Company of Mississippi.

Notes and articles:
The
Southern Lumberman, July 5, 1919, p. 35:
Memphis,
Tenn., June 30 – the Delta & Pine Land Company of Mississippi has
recently taken over the properties of the Mississippi Delta Planting
Company and the Lake Vista Plantation Company and the Triumph Plantation
Company, of Scott, Miss., and will in the future operate the hardwood mill
formerly belonging to the Mississippi Delta Planting Company at Scott.
The Delta & Pine Land Company is one of the oldest corporations
in Mississippi, and at one time held very extensive pine interests in that
state, most of which have been disposed of, and their lumber activities
will in the future be confined entirely to hardwoods.
The lumber business will be continued as heretofore in the
manufacturing and wholesaling of Southern hardwoods, making a specialty of
red gum. The equipment at
Scott, Miss., consists of a thoroughly modern band mill with a daily
capacity of from 40,000 to 45,000 feet, planing mill and shingle mill.
The operation of the mill will remain unchanged.
S. J. Hughes will be in charge of the plant and manufacturing part
of the business at Scott, and H. P. Moyer will still capably handle the
purchasing and sales end of the lumber department at the old office of the
Mississippi Delta Planting Company, 156 Madison Avenue, Memphis.
