History by Gil Hoffman: The
K. C. (Kansas City) Lumber Company was incorporated at Lucedale,
Jackson County, on January 16, 1902, by G. E. McVicar, J. M. Kennedy, J. A.
Richardson, E. H. Porter, Joseph Grisham and F. B. Brown with authorized
capital stock of $100,000. On
January 21, 1902, the incorporators purchased the sawmill of the Mississippi
Yellow Pine Lumber Company, at Denny, a short distance south of
Lucedale. That same year a
circular sawmill with a cutting capacity of 80,000 feet per day was built at
Lucedale. On June 17, 1903, the
charter was amended to raise the capital stock to $200,000. The
mill cut out in April 1914.
