Gulf & Mississippi Railroad
was created in 1985 and purchased several rail lines from Illinois Central
Gulf Railroad and began service on July 10, 1985. Most of these lines were
former Gulf Mobile & Ohio RR lines in Mississippi, Alabama, and
Tennessee. The company was sold to MidSouth Rail, another ICG spin-off, on
April 14, 1988, who formed a subsidiary company called SouthRail to take
over the lines.
