History by Gil Hoffman: On
August 26, 1905, W. W. Carre & Co., of New Orleans purchased at a
receiver’s sale the sawmill, railroad equipment and timber holdings of the
J. A. Favre Lumber Company at Favreport in Hancock County, MS. On
December 7, 1908 W. W. Carre & Company purchased two mills from Herlihy,
Haas & Herlihy, one at Kiln, and the other at Bayou Talla, both in
Hancock County. The Bayou Talla mill included a logging railroad half a mile
long and one locomotive. The company maintained it headquarters and main
sawmill in New Orleans, Louisiana.
