History
by Tony Howe:
Bayou Land & Lumber Co. was first established in 1907 as a lumber
distributor in Cincinnati, Ohio by F. K. Conn, president; George W. Hand,
vice-president; C. S. Walker; S. A. Conn; and F. E. Linz, secretary and
tresaurer.
Around 1911, it appears that Bayou Land & Lumber Co. purchased the sawmill,
timber, and logging railroad of William Deffenbaugh from the Commercial
State Bank & Trust Co. This mill was logged by a railroad about 1.5 miles
long that ran towards the northwest. Bayou Land & Lumber immediately changed
the direction the logging railroad ran, and logged timber that was located
southeast of Lindsay.
The Bayland Saw Mill Company
was incorporated in September 1920. F. K. Coon was president and J. C.
Neal, mill superintendent. The mill cut out in late 1926.
