History by Gil Hoffman:

The Wausau Southern Lumber Company was organized at Wausau, Wisconsin in 1902 and purchased 70,000 acres of timber land in Mississippi, mostly in Jones County. Construction of a sawmill was delayed until 1911 because of poor business conditions in the lumber industry. In 1911 a double band and gang mill with resaw was built at Laurel, Jones County. The cutting capacity of this mill was 250,000 feet per day. W. H. Bissell was president and S. B. Bissell was general manager.

The Wausau Southern mill cut out in 1932.
