HISTORY by Tony Howe:

This location was originally called Loper. In 1908 it was renamed Rhodes. In 1914 J. M. Hemphill Lumber Co. built a large mill here. It was sold to J. M. Griffin in 1917 and burned in 1919 and not rebuilt.

INDUSTRY-

A view showing most of "downtown" Rhodes across from the mill. The building at right is the lumber company office, and next to it is the company commissary.
