HISTORY by Tony Howe:
Poplarville was established before the railroad was built, and had a post office built in December 1879. The town was incorporated in 1884 after the New Orleans & Northeastern Railroad was completed. It became the county seat for Pearl River County when it was formed in 1890. INDUSTRY - Poplarville Lumber Co.- 1890-1910 Hickson & Saunders- 1895 Poplarville Saw Mill Co.- 1910-1919 W. W. Lambert Co.- 1898-1902
