HISTORY by Tony Howe:
Hillsdale was first listed as station on the New Orleans & Northeastern Railroad in the first timetable after the railroad opened in 1884. It had a 43-car siding at that time. A post office was established here in March 1884. The siding was extended to 73 cars in 1903 and again to 84 cars in 1917. Southern Lumber & Timber Co. had a large sawmill here from 1908 until 1924. After it burned in 1924, the town died out. The post office finally closed in 1948. INDUSTRY - Southern Lumber & Timber Co.- 1908-1924
