HISTORY:

The Tishomingo Railroad leased a rail line from a connection with Norfolk Southern RR at Iuka Junction, near Iuka to the Tri-State Commerce Park in 1999 from the State of Mississippi, Department of Economic and Community Development. This rail line was built in 1980 to the site of a nuclear power plant then under construction by the Tennessee Valley Authority. The power plant project was abandoned in 1984 and the site transferred to NASA (National Aeronautical and Space Administration) ownership, who planned to use the site to build a solid-fuel rocket manufacturing facility. This project fell through in 1993 as well, and the railroad sat unused. The plant site and the railroad was then deeded to the State of Mississippi in 1996, and an industrial park developed on the site. Then in 1999, the Tishomingo Railroad was formed to operate the rail line to this industrial park. The Tishomingo Railroad was leased to Mississippi Central Railroad (Pioneer Railcorp) in July 2009 and sold to them in 2015.
