History by Gil Hoffman: On
September 9, 1902, E. H. Easterling, of Brookhaven, Miss., representing E.
P. Denkmann, of Rock Island, Ill., purchased the assets of C. J. Welch &
Company, at Mish, Covington County for $89,235.63. To operate this property
the Pine Lumber Company was incorporated at Mish on October 9, 1902, by E.
P. Denkmann, C. J. Welch, E. H. Easterling and J. O. Pantall with authorized
capital stock of not less than $50,000 and not more than $150,000.
Easterling transferred the property to O. L. Benway, one of Denkmann's
associates, on May 18, 1904, and in turn, Benway transferred them to the
Pine Lumber Company on October 1, 1905. The company went out of business about February 1910.
