| The Gulf & Ship Island was incorporated on
February 23, 1882 to build from Jackson, TN to Gulfport, MS, 380 miles.
This portion, the Northern Division from Ripley to Pontotoc, was the only one built at that
time. The Northern Division
was sold under foreclosure on August 1, 1889 to the Gulf & Chicago RR.
