In Yellow Pine Capital Gil Hoffman and Tony Howe, through stories and anecdotes, have focused on the four sawmills around which the city of Laurel grew. The book contains historic photographs, maps of the routes of the logging railroads, as well as locomotive histories. 422 pages.

Dr. Gilbert Hoffman grew up in Mississippi and has devoted much of his adult life to his avocation of Mississippi railroad and sawmill history.

Co-author Tony Howe is a Mississippi Gulf Coast native and career railroader employed by the Norfolk Southern Railroad. An historian and professional artist, Howe has spent years researching records and mapping timber holdings of sawmills and logging railroads in Mississippi.
