History by Gil Hoffman:
W. C. Albertson
established a sawmill just south of Moselle, Jones County, in 1883, at the
time the New Orleans & Northeastern Railroad was opened. In 1890 his
mill had a cutting capacity of 65,000 feet per day. The cut was longleaf
yellow pine exclusively, specializing in heart rift-sawed flooring.
On October 6, 1896 a mortgage was placed on the
sawmill, timber holdings and railroad equipment in which C. W. Robinson was
named trustee. Albertson died in February 1898 and on September 16, 1898,
with the mortgage in default, Robinson transferred the property to John
Kamper. Kamper, in turn, sold the property to J. T. McKinnon and Philip M.
Ikeler on November 1, 1898.
